This presentation looks at new developments in Western pop music of the early 21st century. "New"
sounds here represent the various ways in which earlier pop trends of the 20th century are being reborn
around the world. Using many video and audio examples, participants will hear and discuss how recent
Western hits can often market older sounds in new packaging, while many of the liveliest innovations
are coming from countries around Asia, Africa, and South America.
